Simon Butt has been a Chief Security Advisor in the United Nations since 2003 serving for 11 years in the field in Yemen, Afghanistan, Gaza, Lebanon, Indonesia and as the UN Regional Chief of Security for the Middle East. For the last 5 years he has been the Senior Security Advisor for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs; while also leading the development and deployment of the new UN Security Risk Management system and the decision making framework and tools to allow UN humanitarian operations to stay and delivery at an acceptable level of risk in complex security environments globally. Through the Saving Lives Together Framework OCHA security advisors work to lead and encourage effective security collaboration with implementing and operational partners.
